HUMBOLDT — Side-by-side racing is always thrilling for fans. Scott Stuart and Ethan Lamons battled it out in the factory stock feature race Friday at Humboldt Speedway.
With just about two laps gone in the race and Stuart in the lead, the two cars collide. Lamon’s car doesn’t steer well and Stuart’s left front tire is off the rim, rolling down the back straight away.
Lamons continues in the race and Stuart goes to the pit area to change the tire. When the green flag drops, Stuart is still in the pits.
Stuart drove out of the pits and down by a half of a lap to the field. Lamons fades with his damaged car.
After a couple of lead changes, a caution flag flies and Stuart has maneuvered his way to fourth place. But no way he’s winning the race.
The race resumes and Stuart tracks down then-leader Patrick Kay and claims the feature win. Kay was second followed by Brandon Tindle, Clint Drake and Nick Fritch.
In the USRA modified feature race also had its share of excitement. Justin Folk started on the inside pole spot and John Allen had the outside pole position.
Justin Folk grabbed the lead and held off the constant pressure by Allen to win. Allen was the runner-up followed by Brian Bollin, who came from deep in the pack for third.
Chase Sigg ran fourth. Dusty Campbell came across in the fifth-place spot.
Indeed, it’s a wild night on high banks of the Speedway.
The OCRS Sprints are here for a once this year show, and they arrive in force. Unfortunately, as sometimes happens, there are some wrecks; two flips in three laps for example, led to the race being shortened by five laps per OCRS officials.
In the end, it didn’t make much difference, because Jamie Passmore had the field covered, big time. Passmore led wire to wire, and runner up Whit Gastineau fought a heck of a battle for second. Rafe Essary finished third, while Shayla Waddell and Casey Wills rounded out the top five.
Making a big mark at a young age is 13-year-old Trevor Hunt of Kearney. Mo. Hunt pulled out another USRA B-Mod victory at Humboldt. Tim VanGotten claimed second place and Jeremy Chambers was third. Riley Whitworth and Curt Drake rounded out the top five.
Tyler Kidwell won the opening two pure stock feature races at Humboldt this season then had some bad luck. The last two weeks Kidwell has gotten back to his winning ways.
Behind Kidwell on Friday night was defending points champion Jeremy Willard. Levi Phillips ran third and Kyle Mulsow was fourth. George Reimer crossed in fifth place.
