UNIONTOWN — Not much of a homecoming game for Uniontown High’s Eagles Friday.
Eureka High’s Tornadoes powered their way to a 45-8 win over the Eagles. Tyler Spore led the rushing attack for Eureka, which piled up 233 yards on the ground.
“It was one of those nights. When we had a player get hurt in form running in pre-game, it was a sign of things to come,” said Chad Stroud, Eagle head coach.
“We fumbled the ball away on our first offensive play.”
Eureka pushed out to a 22-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. It was 38-0 at halftime.
Garrett Murrow scored Uniontown’s touchdown in the fourth quarter. Trenton Miller ran in the two-point conversion.
Jordan Woods had 49 yards on 10 carries and G. Murrow had 23 yards on six carries.
“They didn’t do anything we weren’t expecting. We simply didn’t show up to play football tonight,” Stroud said. “That’s disappointing.”
Uniontown lost two starters to injuries in the first half.
Miller led the Eagle defensive with eight tackles. Zach Travis had seven tackles. Woods made an interception.
The Eagles fell to 0-3 on the season. Stroud said his team opened the season with three very good football teams.
“If we can just find a way to stay healthy, hopefully that will pay off when we get into district play,” he said.
Uniontown travels to Joplin, Mo., next Friday to play McAuley Catholic High. The game will be played at Missouri Southern State University’s stadium.
