OSWEGO — Uniontown High took a step forward Friday.
According to head coach Chad Stroud, the Eagles played well in stretches on offense and defense.
“Unfortunately, we need guys with more gas in their tank before they are dead tired,” Stroud said.
Host Oswego High, with standout quarterback Lane Martin at the helm, was firing on all cylinders in a 37-6 win.
The loss drops the Eagles to 0-2.
“Despite the score, we were happier with our kids’ effort than we were last week,” Stroud said. “I think this game can be a learning opportunity for our younger kids if they let it sink in and take action.”
Oswego led 16-0 after one quarter and 30-0 at the break. The Indians added another touchdown in the third period.
Uniontown scored in the fourth quarter on a touchdown run by Zach Travis.
“There were stretches where we felt our kids played pretty well,” Stroud said. “We started tackling better in spots, but then Lane Martin would break a long run.
“At times we moved the ball,” he continued. “A fumble deep in their territory ended our best drive of the night. Our passing game took a small step in the right direction. We’re still very, very far from where we can be.”
Oswego rolled up 281 rushing yards.
Jordan Woods led the Eagles with 39 yards on eight carries. Anthony Myers pulled in two catches for 31 yards. Seth Sympson added 28 yards on two receptions.
On defense, Zach Johns had 11 tackles and a sack. Ty Clayton and Brenton Esslinger each chipped in with 10 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Tyler Hall registered  nine tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.
The Eagles host Eureka next Friday.
