Fillies lose two three-set matches

Iola High’s varsity volleyball lost two hard fought games on Thursday afternoon.
The Fillies dropped their first match to Pittsburg in three sets 20-25, 28-26 and 19-25.
Addie Haar had two aces and seven kills. Emery Driskel had one ace and 13 kills. Emma Piazza had six aces, four kills and 11 assists. Kyra Moore had seven kills and 15 assists. Mikaela Platt had one ace and one kill. Sydney Wade had two kills and an assist.
Iola dropped the next match to Independence in three sets 16-25, 25-20 and 22-25. Haar had three kills. Driskel had four aces and 15 kills. Piazza had four aces, six kills and 13 assists. Moore had three kills and 18 assists. Platt had three kills, Wade had four kills and Toni Macha had two kills.
“We played two extremely good competitive teams tonight that are top teams in the SEK,” coach Emily Sigg said. “I am really proud of how we competed tonight and adjusted to each team. I saw so much growth in our defense as well as how much more competitive we’ve become.
“I’m really happy with the progress we make each match and am excited to see where we go at this pace.”
The Fillies play in Burlington’s Invitational today, starting at 8:30 a.m.
