CHANUTE — Iola High’s freshmen collected a third-place finish at Saturday’s Chanute High Freshman Volleyball Tournament.
The Fillies defeated Girard 25-19, 26-24 in the third-place match. They advanced out of their pool with a 3-1 mark into championship bracket play. Iola lost to Anderson County 25-10, 25-19 in the semifinals.
After losing 25-9, 25-8 to Chanute, the Fillies downed Altoona-Midway 25-8, 25-5 in their pool. Iola beat Coffeyville 25-10, 25-10 and Erie 25-16, 25-8.
On the day, Katie Shields and Torrie Lewis led Iola in serving and Emma Piazza was the leader in set assists. Shelby Smith, Addie Haar and Alyssa Zimmerman were the top hitters at the net.
Iola’s freshmen end their season tonight at Columbus against Columbus and Girard.
