The Crest Lancers (16-5, 10-2) hope to hold their position against the raging Yates Center Wildcats, who enter Friday’s finale red hot on a win streak after a 47-45 win over Marais Des Cygnes Valley Thursday and a 59-10 win over Chetopa last weekend.
Yates Center (11-10, 5-7) faced Southern Coffey County Tuesday night. Results from that contest were not available by press time.
Barring an upset Friday, the Crest Lancers will hold the third spot in the Three Rivers League while Yates Center sits ninth.
Crest hopes to rebound from last week’s 64-58 loss to Jayhawk-Linn, which snapped their five-game win streak. They face the seventh-ranked Northeast Vikings (7-6) Tuesday, which will determine their course heading into the regular season.
Lady Lancers, Wildcats game also important
The Lady Lancers are also reeling from a close loss Friday and face an uphill battle against the 12-1 Northeast Vikings Tuesday.
The Lady Lancers are third in the TRL standings behind Northeast and undefeated Jayhawk-Linn, who narrowly defeated the Lady Lancers, 37-35.
Yates Center, meanwhile, sits in ninth place in the TRL with a 6-6 record but only a few games separating them from the top five.
With last Friday’s 45-14 win over Chetopa, and facing the 1-18 Southern Coffey County Titans Tuesday, the Wildcats enter Friday’s showdown on a hot streak.
Titans have tough row to hoe Thursday, Friday
If facing Yates Center Tuesday was not bad enough, the Titans have a pair of tough finales against Northeast and Southeast to wrap up the season Thursday and Friday.
Both boys and girls teams come into the contest on lengthy losing streaks after falling to Madison by sizable margins last Friday. They head to Arma for Thursday’s game against the Vikings. Friday’s game on the road against Southeast will be just as arduous, if not more, but an upset may set the tone for the substate tournament.
Tip-off for all contests begin with the girls at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow 20 minutes after the conclusion of the girls contests.
