HUMBOLDT — Humboldt Middle School’s girl’s and boy’s basketball teams had a successful night at home against Caney Valley. THE BOY’S teams went 2-1 on the day.
The girls won both of their games.
The A-Team won 38-28, after trailing at halftime 16-13.
“We came out great, but really hit a wall in the second quarter,” coach Scott Brady said.
Maggie Johnson scored 18 points and had five steals. Aricah McCall scored 10 points and swiped the ball seven times. Kaylie Johnson scored four points and grabbed five rebounds. Madison Gean scored four points, stole the ball seven times and came down with seven rebounds. Winter Lohman scored two points and grabbed five rebounds.
“After the halftime, we really picked up the pace and pushed the lead once we got it,” Brady said.
The B-Team won 16-13. Emma Johnson scored four points and grabbed six rebounds. Sadie Houk scored four points and stole the ball four times. Ashlynn Booth and Sydney Barker each scored four points.
The eighth grade team won 43-36.
“We didn’t play our cleanest game in the first half, we were tied at 18 at halftime,” coach Jeremy Weilert said. “We played a much better second half.”
Bo Bigelow led the Cubs with 14 points, while Caleb Coronado followed with nine. Logan Gray scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds. Dillon Doolittle scored four points and Ryan Sellman scored two. Tucker Hurst scored four points and came down with five rebounds. Teryn Johnson scored a basket and had three steals.
The seventh-graders lost 48-16.
“We struggled with the size and speed of Caney’s seventh grade team,” Weilert said.
Isiah Coronado scored seven points, Gunner Elder scored four, Jackson Aikins scored two and Drake Hottenstein made a free throw. Josh Hull scored two points and grabbed five rebounds, while Taylor Lassman took down three rebounds.
The C-Team won 23-15. Kyle O’Neal led the team with eight points. Calvin Schoendaller scored seven points and stole the ball three times. Logan Dillow scored four points, while both Treyvor Comstock and Caleb Klauman scored two. Travis King grabbed five rebounds, Kyler Coats had three steals and Dawson Lohman had three steals.
The girl’s and boy’s teams host Eureka on Thursday.
