Humboldt Middle School girls win

YATES CENTER — Humboldt Middle School’s girls picked up a pair of wins on the hardwoods Monday evening, defeating host Yates Center in A and B team action, while the C team fell short.

Humboldt’s A team prevailed 32-23 after leading 17-10 at halftime.

Sydney Houk poured in eight points with nine rebounds, while Aricah McCall followed with seven points. Maggie Johnson and Katie Malone both scored six. Rylan Wilhite had three points and five steals, and Lizzie Myers scored two.

Head coach Scott Brady also praised the defensive contributions of Kaiti Carpenter and Chassis Hoepker. Though neither scored, both were integral to the victory.

“We didn’t play our best tonight, but it was a total team effort, and I am proud of the girls for gutting out a win against a scrappy Yates Center team,” Brady said.

The B team prevailed, 30-19. Kassie Angleton had 13 points and nine rebounds, followed by Kaylie Johnson with four points and seven steals. Denise Johnson and Hannah Riebel each scored four points. Britnee Works had three points and seven rebounds. Sydney Barker also had two points.

The  C team dropped a 12-6 decision, played in a 20-minute running clock.

Tori White had four points and Ashlynn Booth two for the Lady Cubs.

ON THURSDAY, Humboldt went 1-1 at Caney Valley. 

The A team won, 30-14. Maggie Johnson had 12 points and six steals. Houk followed with six points, Works had four points and six boards. Malone chipped in with three points and six rebounds, McCall had two points, eight steals and four assists. Myers and Hoepker added two and one point, respectively.

The Lady Cub B team fell, 26-10. Barker and Booth both had four points. Riebel scored two.
