CHERRYVALE — Humboldt High School’s volleyball team lost the first set it played on Tuesday afternoon.
But coach Cara Thomas’ squad rallied to win the next four straight in order to earn two victories against Cherryvale and Eureka.
Against Eureka, the Cubs came back to win in three sets (20-25, 25-18, 25-16).
“We played strong against Eureka,” Thomas said. “We got behind in the first set, but came back fighting for the next two. Eureka was a big win for us and I’m proud of the team for not giving up and pushing for the ‘W.’”
Annalise Whitcomb and Tilar Wells each recorded a team-high four kills against Eureka. Rylan Wilhite led all Cubs with eight assists.
Against Cherryvale, Humboldt needed just two sets to win (25-17, 25-11).
Whitcomb once again remained a forceful presence at the net by recording six kills against Cherryvale. Makaylah McCall added five of her own. Wilhite and Wells each had three kills.
“Coverage and being scrappy were two things that we did extremely well tonight,” Thomas said.
