Humboldt wins Tri-Valley League title

After knocking off Neodesha earlier this month, all the Lady Cubs needed to secure a Tri-Valley League title was a little time and luck. They received both Tuesday.

The Humboldt High School Lady Cubs completed their undefeated run through the Tri-Valley League with Tuesday’s sweep of Cherryvale and Eureka.

After coming a game short of winning the TVL title in 2024, the Lady Cubs would not be denied in 2025 as they swept the Cherryvale Chargers 25-17 in both sets and Eureka 25-11, 25-20.

With the wins, the Lady Cubs, who also host Monday’s quad, enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed by a large margin with a 27-9 record to complement their 6-0 run in the TVL.

Although having the most wins in the Region II tournament by a wide margin, the tournament is stacked with powerhouse programs including Yates Center (19-11), who was a game shy of capturing at least a share of the Three Rivers League title and St. Mary’s Colgan (18-15), whose record may deceive many due to their losses coming to larger 3A and 4A programs.

The bracket for the regional tournament will be released later this week.
