PARSONS — Iola’s track team competed at Parsons on Friday. Coach Dana Daugharthy said he brought a smaller group compared to the week before when the team traveled to Altamont’s Labette County High School.
Emery Driskel won the high hurdles with a time of 16.02 seconds. Last week, Driskel lost to Chanute’s Rena Stair by a small margin. Driskel beat her by a full second on Friday. Driskel also ran a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles at 48.9 seconds. She placed second in the 200m run with a time of 28.54 seconds — another personal best.
Jo Lohman took sixth in the 1600m run. She finished in 6 minutes and 33.2 seconds. She shaved 18 seconds off of her finish at Labette. Daugharthy said he was pleased with her performance and that she narrowly missed out on fifth place.
Jessica Oakley placed sixth in the discus and shot put. She threw the discus 80 feet, 5 inches and tossed the shot out 29’. Daugharthy said he expects her numbers to go up in the coming weeks because she is still in the process of learning the technique.
Brice Aiello leaped 17’ 7” in the long jump to earn sixth place. Daugharthy noted that Aiello jumped 18’ 6” at Labette, so there was a drop-off. If he had kept the same numbers from the previous week, he would have taken second place.
Chase Regehr missed out on placing in both the 400m and 800m runs by fractions of a second.
The JV team travels to Chanute today and the varsity team will compete at Independence on Friday.
