Mustang coach Dana Daugharthy was able to take several highlights away from Friday’s track meet at Labette County High School.
Chief among those positives was the performance of Tayton Driskel.
The freshman competed in the triple jump and opened some eyes with a jump of 39-9 which was good enough to earn him second-place in the meet.
“I am really impressed with his triple jump,” Daugharthy said. “He just started learning the triple jump and has a lot to learn about it. Even so, he was still able to place second. He has a very bright future ahead of him.”
Driskel also earned fifth in the long jump and joined a 4X400 team that placed fourth. Chase Regehr, Cole Regehr and Nathan Sprague joined him on that team.
The Regehr brothers and Sprague also teamed with Blake Haar in the 4×800 to earn a second place finish.
Daugharthy was very happy with the performance of his relays considering they were without the services of key contributors Kendall Jay and Braden Plumlee this weekend.
On the girl’s side, Cassie Delich led the team.
Delich earned a second place showing in the high hurdles with a time of 19.23 seconds.
Daugharthy is counting on Delich to lead the girls’ team all season.
“We are looking forward to seeing how she finishes her high school career,” Daugharthy said.
The junior varsity girls earned an outstanding performance from Ashleigh Nicholas as she took first in both the high hurdles and 300 hurdles.
For the junior varsity boy’s team Cole Regehr placed 4th in 1600, Alex Morrison 6th in shotput and Dylan Doolittle 5th in high jump.
