The Iola Middle School girls basketball team returned home after a string of road games to host Anderson County Junior High on Monday afternoon.
Both the eighth-grade teams (A and B) picked up victories over the Bulldogs.
The A team won 25-22. Gabby Richards led the Ponies with eight points while Kelsey Morrison dominated the boards by grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
“We did a good job late in the game of holding on to the lead,” coach Marty Taylor said. “That’s something that in the past we’ve struggled with.”
The B team won 27-12. Elysia Kunkler’s 10 points were the most for Iola.
Both the seventh-grade teams (A and B) lost their matchups with Anderson County.
The A team lost 32-17. Jenna Miller had the most points (eight) and rebounds (10) on the team.
“We’re getting better as a team, we still make some silly mistakes but the improvement is there,” Taylor said.
The B team lost 20-14. Britain Folk had a team-high six points.
Iola’s next game will be Thursday at Chanute starting at 3:30 p.m.
