The eighth-grade Fillies have been on a roll lately and even though it wasn’t their smoothest victory on Monday, they didn’t let Prairie View slow their momentum.
Iola lost the first set 25-23 to the Buffalos, but responded with a resounding 25-16 second set victory.
The Fillies edged out a 26-24 win in the third set and the fourth set was all Fillies as they rolled to a 25-16 victory to secure the match.
“It wasn’t pretty, but we really fought tough and came away with the win,” Iola coach Terri Carlin said.
Jenna Miller led the team with 10 kills. Aaliyah Blazek added five kills to the cause. Setter Sidney Shelby had a very strong match as well.
“She put the ball right where our hitters needed it,” Carlin said of Shelby.
The service game of the Fillies was also a strength with Hannah Gardner, Lauryn Holloway and Olivia Carney each recording three aces. It was Carney’s first action with the A-Team.
“I was especially pleased with the play of Olivia,” Carlin said. “She has a super underhand serve and she did not miss a serve all night.”
Becca Sprague had her usual well-rounded game with nine assists, four kills and two aces.

B-TEAM
The Iola B-Team showed off its depth by playing thirteen girls to pull off a five-set victory and outlast Prairie View.
The Fillies won the first two sets, 25-16 and 25-18, but the Buffalos responded with victories in the third and fourth sets.
Iola was able secure the last laugh and the match by winning the decisive fifth set, 15-6.
McKenna Orear starred for the Fillies with nine aces, three kills and a pair of assists. Kelli Stodsgill and Kelsie Finley each had five aces.
Britian Folk had three aces and three kills. Sidney Shelby also had three kills.
Zareona Pulley and Jocelyn Erbert each added three aces.
