Iola Post 15 wins two in home tourney

Iola American Legion Post 15 held a round-robin baseball tournament over the weekend.
The Indians took on Chanute Saturday but the game was suspended when rain moved into the area. The teams resumed play Sunday.
Iola defeated Chanute 6-3. Ethan Ericson pitched a four-hitter for the Indians. He issued six walks and hit a batter but also recorded 10 strikeouts.
Each team tallied a run in the first inning. Iola added three in the fourth and two in the sixth to go up 6-1. Chanute scored twice in the seventh.
Mark Bristol led the Iola offense with two doubles. Hitting a single each were Jerrik Sigg, Chris Heffern and Ericson.
The Indians had to work into extra innings for their next victory. Iola edged Burlington 8-7 in 10 innings.
Ryan Latta, who had four singles in the game, drove in the tying runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was R. Latta getting a base hit in the bottom of the 10th and scoring on a triple by Sigg for the victory.
Bristol tied the game up in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run home run. The game was tied at 4-4 after three innings.
Burlington pushed across two run in the fifth and Iola got a run in the sixth. Burlington scored a run in the top of the seventh for a 7-5 lead.
Sigg started on the mound for Iola and went five innings. He was charged with six runs on six hits and three walks. He had six strikeouts.
Levi Ashmore got the win in relief. He pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.
Ashmore and Clint Heffern each had two singles. Corey Taylor and Mason Coons each had a single.
Last Thursday, the Indians split a pair of games with host Fort Scott. Iola won the first game 4-3 and lost 11-8.
With the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the seventh, Sigg struck out a Fort Scott batter to get the victory. Sigg allowed three hits, walked seven and struck out four.
R. Latta had two singles while Bristol, Cl. Heffern and Jarred Latta each had a base hit.
Fort Scott broke a 4-4 tie with a six-run fourth inning in the second game. There was no indication in the scorebook who pitched for Iola.
Sigg connected for three singles. R. Latta, Ch. Heffern and Ashmore each had two base hits. Hitting a single each were Taylor and Coons.
Iola hosts Baldwin Tuesday.
