Iola’s Barney eclipses another hurdles record

Barney set the new eighth-grade girls mark of 17.90 seconds, eclipsing Elysia Kunkler’s previous record of 18.10 seconds set in 2016.

BURLINGTON — India Barney made it 2-for-2 on Monday.

As in two track meets, two school records.

Just days after setting a new Iola Middle School record in the 75-meter hurdles in Humboldt, Barney etched her place in IMS eighth-grade lore with a new 100-meter hurdles mark.

Barney set the new eighth-grade girls mark of 17.90 seconds, eclipsing Elysia Kunkler’s previous record of 18.10 seconds set in 2016.

The day was another successful one for the Mustang thinclads.

Iola’s eighth-grade boys won their team competition, as did both the seventh-grade boys and girls squads. Iola’s eighth-grade girls finished third.
