MELVERN — The Crest High School Lady Lancers look to bounce back Monday after falling in both games of Thursday’s road doubleheader against the Marais Des Cygnes Valley Lady Trojans 10-2 and 11-10.
After struggling to find their footing in the opener, the Lady Lancers nearly ended the night with a split were it not for a six-run sixth inning from the Lady Trojans.
Freshman Brailee Edgerton took a loss in the opener despite a five-strikeout performance. She allowed nine walks, 10 runs on eight hits over six innings. Senior shortstop Aylee Beckmon accounted for both of Crest’s RBIs with a pair of grounders.
Riding another five-strikeout performance from senior Kinley Edgerton, the Lady Lancers nearly added their third win of the season but came up short thanks to a Lady Trojan rally. Beckmon once again put Crest on the scoreboard with an RBI single, the first of her team-leading three RBIs, in the opening frame.
In the third inning, an Edgerton single drove in a pair of runs, then junior third baseman Allison Weatherman plated Edgerton to give Crest a 4-2 lead. Crest’s most productive inning came in the fourth inning with RBI singles from junior outfielder Jaycee Schmidt, Beckmon and Weatherman, but the Lady Lancers went scoreless after that as the Lady Trojans rallied.
Thursday’s losses dropped the Lady Lancers’ record to 2-2 overall. They remain undefeated in the Three Rivers League at 2-0. They put their unblemished TRL record on the line Monday, when they host the Northeast Vikings for a doubleheader. First pitch for the opening game is at 4:30 p.m.
