COLONY — The Crest Lady Lancers doubled their wins from 2025 after opening 2026 with an 11-1, 29-19 sweep of the St. Paul Indians during Monday’s home opener.

Pitchers — and cousins — freshman Brailee Edgerton and senior Kinley Edgerton picked a pair of wins while making their 2026 debut, combining for six strikes as the Lady Lancers’ dueling aces while downing Three Rivers League foe St. Paul.

“She was nervous before the game, and I got those nerves as well before I started, but I loved watching her,” said Kinley Edgerton, who earned her first win in more than a year Monday. “It’s amazing watching what she can do. She has a love for the sport and it shows. Practice helped, and having the dugout loud helped me.”

In the opener, Kinley Edgerton was perfect in the batter’s box, hitting 2 of 2 at-bats while tying senior first baseman Makenna Powell for the team lead in RBIs with two each.

Powell picked up two of her RBIs while putting Crest on the scoreboard with a double in the opening frame. A pair of second-inning RBI line-drives by Edgerton and senior shortstop Aylee Beckmon added to the Lady Lancers’ lead. A trio of fourth-inning RBI singles from Edgerton, freshman outfielder Grace Ellington and Powell, who later scored on an errant pitch, pulled Crest within two runs of mercy-ruling St. Paul.

The Lady Lancers achieved their mercy-rule win in style with senior catcher Kailin Nilges hitting a solo home run, followed by junior outfielder Jaycee Schmidt stealing home to end the game at five innings with Crest ahead 11-1.

“After watching the pitcher, and getting through her once, we got the hang of it,” Beckmon said. “We were all motivated and ready to play tonight. Already, in one night, we doubled our wins from last year and showed what we have in store for the rest of the season.”

St. Paul’s bats were livelier in the finale, but after a 13-run Crest fourth inning the result remained the same as the Lady Lancers secured their first sweep in more than two years.

Edgerton ended the night perfect in the batter’s box after driving in five runs while successful in 6 of 6 at-bats.

Crest senior third baseman Summer Valentine drove in four runs while hitting in 3 of 4 appearances while Beckmon and Schmidt had three RBIs each.

“We have the ability. From our lead-off hitter — one through nine — they can put the ball in play,” Crest coach Dakota Sporing said. “You don’t have to hit the ball hard, knock the cover off it. You just have to put it in play. We got speed. Let us run, let’s get things moving and play a little bit of small ball. We’re ahead of where we were last year.”

Crest jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the opening frame, but the Indians would not go quietly. They rallied back to take an 8-5 lead, but RBI singles from Beckmon, Valentine, Powell and a base-clearing triple from Edgerton put Crest back in control.

St. Paul again rallied to within a run, but the Crest floodgates burst open in the fourth inning with the Lady Lancers exploding for 13 runs.

The Lady Lancers return to the diamond Thursda for a non-league doubleheader against Marias des Cygnes Valley. First pitch for the opener is at 4:30 p.m.
