UNIONTOWN — The Marmaton Valley Wildcats continue rising in the Three Rivers League standings following a 7-4, 12-3 sweep of the Uniontown Eagles Thursday.

With another TRL foe in St. Paul Indians waiting in the wings for a Monday doubleheader, the Wildcats improved their win streak to four games.

Senior pitcher Tyler Lord picked up the win in the opener while tallying 11 strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. He allowed four runs on six hits and a walk before his brother, freshman Lane Lord, came in for the final out in the seventh inning — forcing a pop-out.

While Tyler Lord shined on the mound, Lane Lord shined in the batter’s box with a team-leading three hits on 3 of 4 at-bats. Four Wildcats tied. for the team lead in RBIs with one each.

Tyler Lord scored in the opening frame after a fielder’s choice RBI grounder sophomore Thomas Allee.

In the third inning, the Wildcats added a the Wildcats added a trio of runs when Lane Lord scored on a wild pitch and senior first baseman Todd Stevenson drove in Allee. Moments later senior second baseman Brevyn Campbell scored on a passed ball.

In the sixth inning, Uniontown cut Marmaton Valley’s lead to a single run, 5-4. In their final at-bat, the Wildcats gave themselves a bit of breathing room with RBIs from senior designated hitter Chris Ferguson and sophomore outfielder Kris McVey.

The nightcap of Thursday’s TRL series was not nearly as contentious after a nine-run third inning put the Eagles out of contention early. Starting pitcher Allee posted a trio of strikeouts over three innings before reliever McVey came in the fourth inning. McVey posted a team-leading five strikeouts over four innings, holding the Eagles to two runs off four hits.

Like the first contest, it was a team-effort to give Marmaton Valley the win. Unlike the first contest, it was five Uniontown errors limiting the Wildcats to just three RBIs from Tyler Lord, Lane Lord and Allee.

Stevenson had a team-leading two hits while successful in 2 of 4 at-bats.

With the win, the Wildcats improved their record to 7-3 overall and in the Three Rivers League.

They return to the diamond Monday for a road game against the St. Paul Indians. First pitch is at 4:30 p.m. for the opener and tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m. for the finale.
