OSAWATOMIE — Iola High’s junior varsity baseball team picked up a road split Monday.
The Mustangs were keyed by the pitching of Coleson Wiggin in the opener, a 6-3 victory over Osawatomie.
Wiggin allowed three hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out eight.
Garrett Wade led the Mustangs at the plate with two singles. Jake Gumfory, Skyler Rush and Mason Snavely all had one single each.
In the second game, Osawatomie overcame an early 7-2 deficit by scoring one in the third and seven in the fourth of a 10-7 win.
Gumfory took the loss, giving up four hits and three walks in 1 2/3 innings. Ben Cooper started, surrendering two hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Wyatt Hines struck out both batters he faced.
Wade had a single and double, while Cooper and Gumfory had two singles apiece. Wiggin and Hines also had one single each.
The Mustang varsity hosts Osawatomie today. The JV squad returns to action at home Thursday against Independence.
