INDEPENDENCE — Iola High’s junior varsity baseball team swept a doubleheader at Independence Thursday. The Mustangs won 14-0 and 17-6.
Aaron Barclay threw a one-hit shutout in the opener. He struck out five plus went 4-for-4 with three singles and a double.
Eric Heffern and John Whitworth each had three singles. Hitting a single each were Trent Latta, Derrick Weir, Tyler Tomlinson, Shelton Reno and Shae Beasley.
Independence took a 3-0 lead in the first then Iola got five runs in the second to spur the Mustangs to the win.
Tyler Clubine and Latta pitched for Iola, allowing just one hit and walking seven. Clubine struck out three and Latta had two.
Heffern and Reno each had a triple and Clubine doubled. Latta and Austin Snyder each had a single. Iola took advantage of 11 walks and two hit batters.
