MV golf team can’t escape rain, tourney shortened

OSWEGO — Rain storms that cut short several other sporting events also hit Marmaton Valley’s golf team.

The Wildcats were in Oswego for Monday’s Three Rivers League Tournament.

The tournament was cut from 18 to nine holes because of the weather.

The Wildcats took home third place with a team score of 194, 12 strokes behind TRL champion Oswego.

Leading the way for Marmaton Valley was Mitch Covey, who carded a 45 to take eighth place. Joe Jefferis and Mike Swift finished tied for 15th. Each scored 49.

Lane Hamm was just behind at 51, good for 18th place.

Wes Leach of Jayhawk-Linn won the event with a nine-hole score of 40. Matt Bauer of Pleasanton was second at 41.
