ARMA — A few untimely turnovers hampered Crest High’s Lady Lancers Tuesday.
But it was primarily the hot shooting of Northeast-Arma High’s Lina Hensley that told the tale.
Hensley poured in 17 points, enough to push Northeast to a 44-32 win.
“We continue to show improvement,” Crest head coach Terry Messenger said. “But there are some times you just get beat.”
Crest used its man-to-man defense in an attempt to slow the hot-shooting Hensley, Messenger said.
“But they did a good job on their picks,” he said.
Northeast led 9-5 after one period before Crest closed to within 18-16 at the break. The Vikings forged ahead 29-20 after three quarters and closed the game with a 15-12 run.
Kurston Gilliland led Crest with nine points, while Ashley Catt and Brytton Strickler added six points apiece.
“The girls are getting better as far as understanding where they need to be,” the first-year head coach said. “This was all new to them, and they’re getting better. We had a few unforced errors.”
Crest (1-12) hosts Uniontown on Friday.
