By the time the fourth quarter began on Monday night in Iola, the eighth-grade varsity Ponies had more of their starters unable to play than they had suited up.
Even so, coach Scott Ellis and his team were unfazed against their rival Anderson County as the Ponies pulled away from the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter for a 30-19 victory.
With starters Dillon Bycroft — flu — and Isaac Badders — broken wrist suffered during Saturday’s Wellsville Tournament – already sidelined, Bradyn Cole became the latest Iola eighth grader to suffer an injury in the third quarter. Cole suffered a non-contact knee injury while playing defense and after coaches and administrators tended to the injured player, Cole was wheeled out in a wheelchair
