BURLINGTON — A Thursday road trip to Burlington proved to be a tall task for the Ponies’ boys basketball team as they were swept in four games against the Wildcats.
Iola jumped out to a 21-6 lead in the eighth-grade varsity game after one quarter and maintained a 31-18 lead at halftime, but Burlington roared back in the second half for the 49-38 victory.
Iola’s Kole Rogers hit a trio of threes and scored a team-high 11 points, while Drake Sellman added nine.
Nathan Louk and Jack Adams each had six points.
The Ponies — who were still without starters Isaac Badders and Bradyn Cole — got back the services of Dillon Bycroft, who had been suffering from an illness. Bycroft scored four points and made the only two shots he attempted.
Henry Wicoff had two points.
8TH-GRADE JV
The Ponies’ eighth-grade junior varsity team had a hard time getting its offense established as they shot just seven percent from the field in a 23-8 loss in Burlington.
Eli Smith led the Ponies with six points while Josh Kaufman had the other two.
7TH-GRADE VARSITY
The Iola seventh-grade varsity was doubled up in its game against Burlington when they fell 42-21.
Karson Sigg was the leading scorer for Iola with ten points and fellow guard Brett Morrison had six points.
Sam Fager added three.
The Iola frontcourt was limited in the game, however, and were held to just two points on a Cooper Riley bucket.
