Ponies notch pair of victories on home court

Iola Middle School’s seventh-grade B team picked up a pair of home victories Saturday.
The Ponies hosted both Humboldt and Pittsburg.
Iola defeated Humboldt, 52-19, and Pittsburg, 19-13.
Meanwhile, the Cubs rebounded to defeat Pittsburg, 22-20.
Brady Wiggin poured in 16 points to lead the Ponies in the win over Humboldt, followed by Asher Sievers with 13, Ethan Hamm with 9, Brody Nemecek 6, Noah Ashmore 4 and Pieter Venter and Elijah Fawson, 2 each.
Drew Schoendaller and Reid Smith shared scoring honors for Humboldt with 6 points each. Drake Sellman chipped in with 5, Cameron Wells with 3.

IOLA’S 19-13 win over Pittsburg was keyed by Dillon Slaven’s 11 points. Josh Kaufman and Cameron Wells scored 5 and 3 points, respectively.
“Coach (Scott) Ellis does an unbelievable job working with these kids,” IMS head coach Marty Taylor said. “The boys worked hard all day and came away with a couple of good wins.”

SCHOENDALLER scored 9 to lead Humboldt to its victory over Pittsburg. Sellman followed with 4, Smith 3 and Titan Michael, Luke Yokum and Stanley Todd with 2 apiece.
