Allen Community College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams dropped their first games of the 2013-14 campaign over the weekend.
The Red Devil men were in Coffeyville for the Community State Bank Classic Friday and Saturday.
Allen lost a 100-76 decision to Barton on Friday evening before rebounding to knock off Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa, 85-76 on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the ACC women were in Hutchinson for the Lady Dragon Classic. The Red Devils defeated Tabor’s junior varsity, 78-74, on Friday and fell, 79-57, on Saturday to host Hutchinson.
Both teams hold 3-1 records as they prepare for another busy week on the hardwoods. Allen will be at Fort Scott for a Tuesday doubleheader, with the Red Devil women tipping off at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30.
Two more tournaments beckon Friday and Saturday.
Allen’s women will be in Chanute for the NCCC classic to take on Barton and Pratt. The Red Devil men are in Dodge City to play host Dodge City and Pratt.

THE RED Devil men started on the right foot, leading Barton 24-20 at the midway point of the first half on Friday.
But the Red Devils went cold as Barton began to warm up from the field to trigger a 32-18 run to end the half.
Allen trailed 56-38 at the break and never pulled within single digits.
Raheem Tyner led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds. Tyrone Jones also scored 13, Ben Uno had 11 and Courtney Stockard 10. Alex Keiswetter had nine points and eight boards.
Isaac Williams erupted for 30 points for Barton (including 5 of 6 3-pointers), followed by Darius Gibson with 14 and Raheem Johnson, Trey Unrau and Tyler Corley with 12 each.
Stockard took control early against NOC-Tonkawa, scoring 21 points in the first half. Allen led 40-38 at halftime, then trailed by three early in the second period.
Allen regained the lead a minute later and rode solid free throw shooting to the win. Allen converted 30 of 38 free throw attempts.
Stockard led the way with 26 points, followed by Tyner with 13, Fray Fountain and Uno with 11 each and Josh Sweet with 10.
C.J. Rodriguez scored 18, Cortrael 17 and Simeon Dennis 14 for NOC-Tonkawa.

THE RED DEVIL women were led by Briana Barrett’s 19 points and 11 rebounds in their win over Tabor. Jameeshia Armstrong followed with 17 points, while O’ceonna Weston scored 14. Kylie Moliee racked up 11 rebounds with four assists. Erika Essman also dished out four assists. Weston had three blocks.
Allen trailed 34-30 at the break before outscoring Tabor 48-40 in the second half. Allen hit 11 of 13 free throws and shot 46 percent from the field.
The Red Devils’ defeat to Hutchinson Saturday was closer than the final score indicated, head coach Katie Mahoney noted.
“We never let them get more than 11-point lead until the final five minutes,” Mahoney said. The Blue Dragon lead was under six with nine minutes remaining before untimely turnovers and missed shots allowed Hutch to extend its advantage.
“Our youth and inexperience showed, and hopefully we will learn from it,” she said.
Armstrong scored 17, followed by NIcole Salazar with 12 and Weston and Essman with 11 each.
Hutchinson’s win gives the third-ranked Lady Blue Dragons an 85-game home court winning streak.
