OVERLAND PARK — The Allan Red Devils have their backs to the wall, facing a season-ending elimination after falling to the Johnson County Cavaliers 7-1 Thursday in the opening round of the Plains District Regional Tournament.

After upsetting the 12th-ranked Cavaliers earlier this season, Allen looked to repeat history Thursday but fell well short with their only run coming in the second inning.

Trailing by a pair of runs after the opening frame, a sacrifice fly by sophomore catcher Makayla Hirschmann plated freshman shortstop Taylor Damme, cutting Johnson County’s lead to one run. That was as close as the Red Devils would get as Johnson County scored five unanswered runs for the win.

Freshman picture Addie Keys took the loss with a strikeout but allowed seven runs on six hits and a walk. Sophomore Kirsten Busby came in for relief, allowing two hits and one walk, but no runs over 2 2/3 innings. Freshman outfielder Kara Walker registered the Red Devils’ only two hits while successful in 2 of 3 at-bats.

With the loss, the Red Devils’ record fell to 21-26.

They faced Cloud Community College (20-20) at a neutral site in Overland Park Friday, but results were not available by press time.
