TONKAWA — The Allen Red Devils will not let Thursday’s sweep by Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa linger for long with Fort Scott coming to town Saturday to open the Jayhawk Conference season.

In their final tuneup, the Red Devils fell 16-0 and 14-10.

Freshman outfielder Kara Walker and freshman shortstop Taylor Damme accounted for the Red Devils only hits in the opener.

Freshman starter Addie Keys took the loss after allowing eight runs on seven hits over two innings. She tied freshman reliever Kayl Knapp for the team lead in strikeouts with two each.

After a myriad of misfortunes marred the Red Devils in the opener, Allen found its footing in the finale. The Red Devils exploded for an early lead with four runs in the opening frame only to see NOC post seven runs in the third inning and maintain the lead the rest of the game.

Damme wrapped up the day with a team-leading three RBIs, including a home run, while hitting in 3 of 4 at-bats. Sophomore first baseman Kalyse Abernathy had a pair of RBIs while hitting in 2 of 4 at-bats. Freshman Andrea Ruby took the loss with a strikeout over 4 1/3 innings allowing three walks and 14 runs on nine hits.

The losses dropped Allen’s overall record to 7-18, but the only record holding any sway on postseason seeding is the Red Devils’ conference record. First pitch for Saturday’s game against Fort Scott is at 1 p.m.
