Allen Community College is proud to announce the final two inductees into the ACC Athletics Hall of Fame: Bob Saueressig and Shenita “Apples” Waddell Jones. The Athletics Hall of Fame celebration begins tonight as part of a two-day induction event, Feb. 13–14.

Bob Saueressig, a standout distance runner for Allen County Community Junior College during the 1967 and 1968 seasons under Coach Hugh Haire, joins the Hall of Fame following a remarkable career.

A native of Burlington, Kansas, Saueressig rose to national prominence as a freshman by winning the NJCAA National Championship in the two-mile run with a time of 9:37.9, an effort that shattered his personal best and established him among the nation’s top junior college distance runners.

After suffering a fractured hip during the offseason, he returned as a sophomore to place third at the NJCAA Cross Country Championships, earning All-American honors. During the 1968 track season, Saueressig dominated the state’s junior college ranks, setting multiple meet and school records. At the Eastern Kansas League meet, he won the mile, half-mile and two-mile in the same day before running a leg on the mile relay team.

Saueressig’s national title, resilience and record-setting performances cemented his legacy as one of the premier distance runners in program history.

Shenita “Apples” Waddell Jones, a standout in Allen Community College women’s basketball, also joins the 2026 Hall of Fame class.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Waddell made an immediate impact on the Red Devils program. She led the team in scoring in both seasons of her career, totaling 1,115 points to become the program’s second all-time leading scorer at the time of her departure. As a sophomore, she averaged 18.8 points per game while also leading the team in assists, steals and rebounds.

Waddell earned Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Eastern Division All-Conference honors in both seasons, was a unanimous All-Jayhawk Eastern selection as a sophomore and earned All-Region IV First Team recognition. She later continued her collegiate career at UTEP at the Division I level.

Waddell’s impact, competitive spirit and legacy remain a lasting part of Red Devil basketball history.

Allen Community College invites the community to join in honoring the 2026 ACC Athletics Hall of Fame inductees.

• Kenny Norris, Track & Field (1973–74)
• 1996 Golf Team
• Judith Bragg, Volleyball Coach (1973–82)
• Duane Wales, Baseball (1982–83)
