LE ROY — Southern Coffey County High did what it needed to Friday, preventing visiting Altoona-Midway from gaining any confidence on the gridiron.
“Altoona-Midway is short on numbers but their kids played hard,” Titan head coach Korey Lankton said.
But the Jets’ spirit proved no match for Southern Coffey County’s offensive attack.
The Titans rushed for 182 yards and threw for 86 more in a 50-0 victory.
The win lifts SCC to 2-5 overall. More importantly, it puts the Titans at 2-1 in district play, with a critical home game next Friday at home against rival Crest. A win there puts the Titans in prime position to corral a postseason playoff berth.
“We were able to control the line of scrimmage offensively and it allowed us to throw and run the ball effectively,” Lankton said. “Defensively we still have bad angles sometimes and tried tackling too high, but I thought our kids improved.”
Walker Harred rushed only three times, but scored twice on runs of 16 and 50 yards. Josiah Witteman turned both of his receptions into touchdowns, covering 60 yards. Zach Roush had a touchdown among his two receptions as well. Meanwhile, Michael Hill rushed for 28 yards, Luke Gillis had 23 and Zach Roush had 21 in the balanced scoring attack.
Nick Spencer completed 4 of 5 passes for 88 yards and three touchdowns.
Witteman and John Worthy both had eight tackles on defense, followed by Cody Perry and Hill with six each. Chonnor Ludolph chipped in with an interception. Tanner Garretson had a quarterback sack.
