Sonic Stealers, SEK Thunder take trophies at tournament

LEE’S SUMMITT, Mo. — Two area traveling girls’ softball teams from the area are racking up victories and trophies.
The Sonic Stealers, sponsored by Dan Oswalt of Iola, won the 12-and-Under Blue Division of the VIP Summer Legacy Tournament in Lee’s Summit, Mo., June 3-4.
At the same tournament, the SEK Thunder, a 14-and-under team, finished third in its division.
The Sonic Stealers went undefeated in pool play, beating Grand River Storm 8-2, Odyssey Fastpitch 8-1 and Fusion 7-0. Kyndal Frederick, Rylan Wilhite and Sydney Wade pitched for the Stealers and did not give up a hit in the three games. Frederick had two wins in pool play.
Hits for the Stealers in pool play games: Wade hit a two-run home run in the second game and had a single; Ashlie Shields, three singles; Jessica Rossillon, three singles, a double; Reghan Sigg, single; Megan Hudlin, single and triple; Holly Shinn, single; Frederick, two singles, a double; Wilhite, two singles; Sydney Houk, single; Makaylah McCall, single; Riley Murry, single; Emily McKarnin, single.
Frederick threw a one-hitter in a 3-1 win over KC Kryptonite in bracket play. Rossillon, McCall and Shinn each had a single for the Stealers.
Sonic Stealers rolled over Crimson & Blue 10-0 in the championship game. Frederick got the win with Wilhite pitching one inning. Hudlin hit a single and a double and McCall had two singles. Sigg doubled. Hitting a single each were Frederick, Rossillon, Wade, Murry, Houk, Anna Whitcomb and McKarnin.
