Speedway suspends go-kart races

HUMBOLDT — Excessive heat prompted a decision by Humboldt Speedway owners to suspend the 2010 go-kart season.
“With the temperatures as hot as they were Sunday afternoon, we decided to postpone races in August and September,” said Rhenda Whitworth, who owns and operates Humboldt Speedway with her husband Ron.
“We’ll finish the season in October when the weather is cooler.”
Whitworth said updates will be posted on the Speedway website, humboldtspeedway.com
The Whitworths designed and built a go-kart race track on the infield of the speedway. This is the first year for go-kart racing..
Last Sunday, Trey Stipp won the 5-8-year old class in his first appearance at Humboldt. Jaymond Rice, the current points leader, was second, followed by Tyler Davis.
Through several lead changes, the 9-10-year old division was won by Matthew Kay. Paige Kidwell ran second, with Luke Phillips in third place.
Levi Phillips captured the 13-15-year-old division race. Neal Miller finished second and Mike Churning was third.
In the 300-pound car class, Justin Douglas dominated the race for the win. Riley Whitworth finished second followed by Lori Davis.
Nick Miller claimed the victory in the 350-pound car class.
Mike Nunnenkamp came across in second and Mike Kay was third.
On July 10, Rice won the 5-8-year-old division with Blake Sutton in second and Marverick Wilson taking third.
Matthew Kay won the 9-12-year-old race, staying in front all 20 laps. Luke Phillips was second and Paige Kidwell was third.
In the 13-15-year-old division, Chase Gray won the race.
Neal Miller ran second and Levi Phillips was third.
Winning the 300-pound car class was Jay Ports. Cody Poyner was second and Tammy Ports took third.
Tyler Kidwell won the 20-lap 350-pound car class. Nick Miller was second and Mike Nunnenkamp was third.
