HUMBOLDT — Go-kart racing has come to Humboldt Speedway in 2010.
The past two weekends the newly formed track on the infield of Humboldt Speedway has brought out drivers in several age groups.
Humboldt’s go-kart season was to have opened June 13 but was rained out. Those races were made up on June 19.
Two racing dates are set for July — July 10 and July 18. Following race dates are Aug. 1 and Aug. 15, Sept. 12 and Sept. 26. October race dates will be announced later.
Sunday afternoon, there was added money to the adult clone 300-pound and 350-pound classes. There were 32 karts racing in five divisions.
Brady Folk won the 5-8-year old class. Dylan Schild ran second and Tyler Davis was third.
Mathew Kay led start to finish in the 9-12-year-old division. Bryce Weldon held off Paige Kidwell for second.
Neal Miller edged out Levi Phillips for the win in the 13-15-year-old class. Mike Churning placed third.
In the adult 300-pound kart division, Rachell Douglas captured the victory. Jay Ports finished second and Justin Douglas was third in the field of eight.
The adult 350-pound kart class had a field of 11 drivers. Nick Miller nailed down the victory, taking the lead at the start and holding off Tyler Kidwell. Mike Kay ran third.
In the opener June 19, Raymond Rice won the 5-8-year-old feature race followed by Dylan Schild and Levi Larson. Billie Phillips was the 9-12-year-old division winner followed by Andy Bryant and Mathew Kay.
Chase Gray outran the field in the 13-15-year-old division in the opener. Levi Phillips took second and Mike Churning was third.
Justin Douglas won the 20-lap feature in the 300-pound kart division. Melinda Anderson and Jon Odell were second and third.
In a restart, Tyler Kidwell, Russell Frame and Tim VanGotten were in a battle at the front of the 350-pound kart feature race. It was a green-white-checkered situation.
Kidwell drifted high coming out of turn two and Frame took the lead. Frame held on for the win followed by Kidwell and VanGotten.
Then came the 9-12-year-old heavy class, Andy Bryant won followed by Dylan Sands and Luke Phillips. Chase Gray won the 13-15-year-old heavy class with Levi Phillips in second and Neal Miller in third.
On July 10, gates open at 4 p.m. followed by racing at 6 o’clock. On the other scheduled dates, gates open at 2 o’clock with races starting at 4 p.m.
