MORAN — The Lady Wildcats just couldn’t hold on to their offensive stance Tuesday night against the Northeast Arma Vikings, dropping the contest 42-34 after leading in the first half.
“Turnovers,” was all Head Coach Gavin Cole said when asked about what went wrong in the second half. “I think I counted 36 of them. It’s tough to win a game when you have that many.”
But that’s not to say they didn’t try.
After putting up strong numbers in the second quarter, the Wildcats led 21-18 going into the half. Heavy defense from the Vikings stifled them overall, holding them to just 13 in the second half.
Marmaton Valley never let their deficit slip below 10, however, and seemed to bounce back at almost every Viking score. Mackenzie Tynon had a strong presence on the court for the evening, scoring 19 points. She was followed by Emily Meiwes with six points.
“We are just growing as a team,” Cole said. “They’re playing with heart, they want to win.”
The Vikings seemed to have a bit more in the tank down the stretch, however, as they extended their lead off of the aforementioned turnovers and a tough press.
The Lady Wildcats will face off against Olpe Thursday evening for the continuation of their preseason tournament at home.
