Two ACCC men qualify for nationals

Kyran Stewart ran the 200-meter dash in 21.76 seconds last weekend at the Iowa State Open indoor track meet.
The Allen County Community College sophomore captured third place in the 200 finals. Stewart’s time qualified him for the NJCAA national indoor meet March 4-5 in Lubbuck, Texas.
Bryant Terry was 17th in the 600-yard run in 1 minutes, 13.98 seconds.  That set a new ACCC record and qualified him for the national meet. Jesse Jenkins was 40th in 1:16.87.
Stewart finished seventh in the men’s 60-meter dash in 6.94 seconds. Also making the finals from ACCC was DeMario Johnson, placing 15th in 7.04 seconds.
In the men’s 400-meter dash, Trent Huling led a six-runner contingent from ACCC. Huling placed sixth in 49.45 seconds with Brandon Miller taking ninth in 40.38.
Darrlyn Bennett finished just ahead of Abraham Walker, 51.01 and 51.15, respectively, for 24th and 25th. Jamal Romeo was 36th in 51.80 seconds and John Thurston was 43rd in 52.41.
Zachery Baldwin cleared the high jump bar at 6 feet, 2 3/4 inches. That put him in seventh.
Patrick Johnson took 47th in the 3,000-meter run in 10:45.46 and Travis Kite was 48th in 10:49.75. Johnson was 71st in the 800-meter run in 2:19.37.
Olnel Virgil took 24th in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.87 seconds.
Travis Vennior had a season-best toss of 43’9 1/4” in the shot put event. He was 22nd. Julian Christian was 40th at 31’5 3/4” and DeAndre Speed placed 42nd in 30’8 3/4”.
Three other Red Devils competed in the 60-meter dash — DeMario Johnson, Chris Henry and Terance Brooks Jr. — and six other runners were in the 200-meter dash — Henry, Walker, Baldwin, Brandon Smith, Brooks and Romeo.
According to ACCC assistant coach Christa Baird, everyone who ran for the ACCC women at Iowa State posted a season-best time.
“Audre’Ahna Harris keeps chipping away at her 60-meter hurdle time and gets closer to qualifying for national each meet,” Baird said.
Harris ran the 60-meter hurdles in 9.67 seconds for 24th.
The best performance turned for the ACCC women came in the long jump by Rackell Goldson. Goldson finished 10th with a leap of 16’9 1/4”.
Akilah Threadgill was 31st in the long jump at 14’8 3/4”. Goldson placed 20th in the triple jump at 33’5 1/4”.
Bridge Sears took 29th in the shot put with a throw of 31’5 1/4”.
In the 60-meter dash, Nakita Casey was 44th in 8.26 seconds. Threadgill was 63rd in 8.57 and Kasie House was 67th in 8.68 seconds.
Nakita Casey finished 65th in the 200-meter dash in 27.69 seconds. Harris was 75th in 28.20 seconds and House was 87th in 28.95 seconds.
Several ACCC athletes competed at the Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence Friday. The teams go to Baymont Inn/Fazolis Invitational in Joplin, Mo., Feb. 4-5.
