MOUND CITY — Iola Middle School’s golfers played well as a team on the Sugar Valley Golf Course Monday. The Ponies won the Jayhawk-Linn Jr. High tournament.
Iola finished with a team score of 164. Chanute’s Royster Middle School was a distant second with a 181. Jayhawk-Linn had a 198 for third place.
Shane Walden was top medalist in the nine-hole tournament. Walden carded a 36 and was the only golfer to shoot par on the course.
Matt Percy of Central Heights was second with a 38.
Matt Jacobs and Kaden Macha each shot 42s. Jacobs was fifth-place medalist and Macha took seventh.
Drake Dieker’s 44 got him the 10th–place medal. Isaiah Grover shot a 45 and Adam Peterson had a 46 to round out the Iola players for the day.
The Ponies go to Garnett Wednesday for the Anderson County Jr. High tournament.
