RICHMOND — Marmaton Valley Junior High came up short in some hard-fought volleyball action Monday.
The Wildcats traveled to Central Heights for a triangular, which also included Southern Coffey County.
Marmaton Valley’s A team dropped a 25-22 and 25-15 setback to SCC, before falling 25-13 and 25-22 to host Central Heights.
The Lady Titans’ match was a game of runs in the first set.
Southern Coffey County rattled off 12 straight points to take a commanding 20-11 lead, but the Wildcats rallied with seven in a row, courtesy of some clutch serving by Layten Blevins.
The Lady Titans sealed the win with three straight points.
Kenna Boone served up four straight points to start set two, but Southern Coffey County put together scoring runs of six, four and seven points to finish off the sweep.
Central Heights bolted out of the gates in the first set, racing to an 11-4 lead, and never looked back in the first set.
The Wildcats responded gamely in the second. Kylee Resco, Kinsley Vance and Amanda Kierych each served up extended scoring runs, but the five-point run by the Vikings midway through the set put MV behind the 8-ball the rest of the way.
THE WILDCAT B team also put forth valiant efforts, dropping a 25-21 and 25-22 loss to SCC, and a three-set nailbiter to Central Heights, 25-15, 19-25 and 15-11. Taygen Stroud, Gaby Tholen, Savannah Cain, Ellie Stinnett, McKenna Meiwes and Aubrie Heskett all had strong service nights.
Marmaton Valley’s C team also took on Central Heights, falling 25-14 in its only set of the night.
