The Humboldt Cubs lost their second consecutive game 35-16 to the Cherryvale Chargers in last Friday’s Tri-Valley League contest.
For the first time in recent memory, the Humboldt Cubs are 0-2 at the start of the season and remain winless in the TVL.
Senior quarterback Mason Sterling had a mixed performance in his return last Friday. Although leading the Cubs in rushing with 114 yards on 19 carries, he also completed 8 of 18 passes with a touchdown and an interception. Another player with a mixed night last Friday was sophomore running back Ty Shaughnessy, who averaged 4.2 yards per carry on 11 carries before leaving the game with leg injury.
Junior receiver Gavin Gunderman had a team-leading 54 yards receiving on three catches while hauling in Humboldt’s only TD pass of the evening.
Before leaving the game, Shaughnessy also had a team-leading six solo tackles, seven total, followed by Gunderman with five.
With the loss, the Cubs fall to 0-2 and remain winless in the TVL. With Homecoming slated for Friday, Erie’s Red Devils look to play spoiler.
