The Iola Mustangs brought home more than a few medals while competing in their penultimate wrestling tournament before Wednesday’s finale in Eureka.
Although finishing ninth as a team, the Mustangs put multiple wrestlers on the medal podium, including tournament champions Colton Hall, Kaiden Jones, Jaxson Bernstein, and Milo Franklin.
Hall, an Iola 83-pounder, was the first to reach the medal podium.
Hall opened with a first-period pin of Chanute’s Hunter Hurt, then secured first place with a few fireworks after tech-falling Neodesha’s Collin Millison 16-1. 
At 134 pounds, Franklin Granere spent less than 3 minutes on the mat with first-period pins of Labette County’s Aiden Garcia and Caney’s Cordell Schwinger respectively.
Jones took first in the 154-lb. advanced division after opening with a first-period pin of Lane Nototny of Cherryvale, then securing first with a first-period pin of Independence’s Emmett Bryant.
Jaxson Bernstein, 233 lbs., took first with a pair of first period pins of Cherryvale’s Anderson Jones.
Second place
Ruben Scroggins, 114 lbs., opened with a loss to eventual champion Paxton Foreman of Independence, then secured second place with a first-period pin of Fredonia’s Hunter Beard.
Evan Boeken, 133 lbs., took second after opening with a loss to eventual champion Brantlee Moore of Fort Scott, then had a 15-11 decision victory over Chanute’s Syncere Mosley.
Matthew Holding, 135 lbs., opened with a victory via first-period pin of Frontenac’s Stanson Lillich, then fell to eventual champion Evan O’Connell of Neodesha in a 3-0 decision.
At 136 lbs., Ron Ballard took second with a loss in the final seconds of the third period via pin but rebounded with a first period pin of Gage Suckstorf of Cherryvale.
Caleb Jakovich-Sette, 144 lbs., took second after falling to eventual champion Slade Stich of Chanute in a second-period pin, then knocking off Coffeyville’s Cooper Stockton in the first period via pin to end the evening.
Gabe Klubek, 245 lbs., took second with a loss via second-period pin to Chanute’s Brodhyei Blackwell, then rebounded with a first-period pin of Coffeyville’s Lane Potts.
Third place
Dusty Findley, 70 lbs., took third place with a 15-2 major decision loss to Oscar Catlin, then fell to Hunter Wisdom of Caney with a first period pin.
