The Yates Center Wildcats continue putting distance between themselves and other challengers for a Three Rivers League title with Tuesday’s sweep of Oswego and St. Paul.

After opening the night with a three-set thriller against Oswego, the Wildcats wasted little time in the finale, dispatching St. Paul in two sets and staying undefeated in the TRL at 10-0. Their overall record improves to 18-10.

Against Oswego, the Wildcats opened by winning the first set, 25-17. They fell in the second set 25-17, but then prevailed in the third set, 25-20. Senior outside hitter Cayten Cummings had a team-leading 13 kills, but Yates Center nearly had more success at the serving line than the net. Senior setter Madison had a team-leading four aces, followed by Cummings with three, then senior outside hitter Kinley Morrison and sophomore libero Makenzi Morrison had two for a total of 13 aces to 15 kills.

Defensively, Cummings had a team-leading 16 digs, followed by Kinley Morrison and Hall with 10 each. Kinley Morrison also registered Yates Center’s only block of the opener.

THE WILDCATS had a more workman-like approach to the St. Paul Indians, who they quickly dispatched 25-22 and 25-21. Cummings once again reached double-digits in kills — this time with 12, followed by senior outside hitter Wylee Shaffer’s seven, then Hall and Kinley Morrison with two each. Hall, Cummings and junior outside hitter Mylin Tidd tied for the team lead in aces with two each.

Defensively, Cummings came up big again with 11 digs, followed by Makenzie Morrison’s 6 and Shaffer’s five. Morrison also had the Wildcats’ only block against St. Paul.

Following Tuesday’s action, Yates Center has the next week off. They return to the hardwood next Tuesday for a triangular at Central Heights.
