COLONY — Yates Center High’s softball team cruised to a pair of victories here Thursday, defeating host Crest, 20-1 and 14-0.

Every Wildcat player recorded at least one hit and a run in the opener.

Leading the way was Morgan Collins, who went the distance on the mound, allowing two hits with four strikeouts, while also pounding out a pair of home runs and a double with six RBIs.

Hannah Jones doubled twice among her three hits, while Molly Proper singled twice and doubled, and Grace Westerman had three singles. Anna Westerman doubled twice, Izzy Lewis notched a single and double, while Allie Chrisman, Emma Grogg and Addie Solander each recorded a hit.

The Wildcats erupted for 11 runs in the second inning, three in the third and four in the fourth.

Crest’s Kammee Bachman singled in the third and scored on Aubree Holloran’s double for Crest’s only run.

Lindsay Godderz and Sydney Stephens registered hits as well for the Lady Lancers.

THE WILDCATS’ Molly Proper handled pitching duties in Game 2 for Yates Center, and was equally as effective, allowing just three singles in five innings, hits to Godderz, Holloran and Stephens, while striking out seven.

Lancer pitchers allowed 15 walks, a key component for YC’s scoring attack.

The Wildcats managed three hits in the nightcap, singles by Grogg, Proper and Lewis.

“We hit the ball well,” Yates Center head coach Abbie Collins said, while noting her team’s pitching accuracy was a key factor.

“Morgan and Molly pitched well,” she said. “They didn’t walk one batter all night.”

Yates Center (11-1) hosts St. Paul Monday. Crest (4-8) travels to Chetopa Monday.
