GIRARD — Yates Center High’s MaKayla Jones took home third place in a tournament for first-year players, shooting a 61 over nine holes.
“This tournament gave the girls a chance to see where they stood among other beginning golfers,” Wildcat golf coach Kevin Barnes said. “MaKayla did really well after a rough first hole.”
Braeden Burright shot a 76, to tie for 14th. Jaylie Weseloh tied for 18th with an 86.
“Braeden finally got to play in a tournament after being sick the first junior varsity tournament of the year, and she did a good job,” Barnes said. “Jaylie has improved her play from the first tournament. One of the holes I saw Jaylie play was her last hole, a long par 4, she hit three really nice shots to be on the green about 15 feet from the cup.”
