EUREKA — Hitting free throws and “a couple of baskets” at the end boosted Yates Center High’s Wildcats to a 44-37 win over Eureka High’s Tornadoes Thursday.
The Wildcat boys improved to 13-4 overall in winning the Tri-Valley League game on the road. They travel to Neodesha tonight for another league contest.
Yates Center pushed to a 20-15 halftime advantage. Eureka outscored the Cats 14-11 in the third quarter.
In the final eight minutes, the Wildcats tossed in 13 points while holding the Tornadoes to eight. That sealed the win.
Paul Stockebrand paced the Wildcats with 16 points and eight rebounds. Dalton Smith scored 11 points.
DaQota Williams scored 10 for Eureka.
Eureka beat Yates Center 37-20 in junior varsity. Sam Aguirre scored seven points.
Eureka won the girls’ game 47-21. No report was made on the game to the Register.
