A pair of back-to-back Johnson County Community College scores in the first sank the Allen Community College Red Devils early in Wednesday’s 3-0 loss.

Despite a strong performance by Allen goalkeeper Catherine Mitcher, who made nine saves on 12 shots, the Red Devils’ offense could not find the net, snapping a winning streak that began in Texas late last month.

Darby Howard, JCCC freshman forward, played a role in both Cavaliers’ first-period scores.

At the 17-minute mark, she found sophomore midfielder Brecken Hoy on a pass, resulting in JCCC’s first score, then 15 minutes later she found freshman midfielder Isable Espino with another pass resulting in another goal.

With only a few minutes left in regulation, Hoy found the back of the net again, this time on a pass from sophomore midfielder Tatum Bresette.

With the win, JCCC remains undefeated in the Jayhawk Conference at 1-0 while Allen drops to 0-1-1. The Red Devils return to the pitch Saturday, when they host Southeast at Allen Community College. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
