COLONY — Kole Walter poured in 24 points and Lane Yocham scored 18 to lead Crest High’s boys to victory Tuesday.
Walters’s marksmanship from the free throw line, hitting 8 of 10 charities down the stretch, sealed a 61-49 win over visiting Northeast-Arma.
The win secures the third seed for Crest (17-5) in the upcoming Class 1A-I Substate Tournament, but first the Lancers will have one more regular season game at home Friday at Yates Center for Senior Night.
Tuesday’s showdown against Northeast was tightly fought throughout. The Vikings held an 11-10 lead after one quarter before Crest forged a 26-22 advantage at the break. The game remained in doubt through much of the second half. Crest held a 42-39 lead after three.
Yocham hit a key 3-pointer in the fourth quarter before Walter scored the final eight points of the contest from the line to secure the win. Walter wound up hitting 13 of 16 charities on the night
Levi Prasko added 10 points, while Xander Fuller scored eight for the Lancers.
Conner Hill scored 14, while Tayven Willard and Jaxson Payne had 11 apiece for the Vikings.
Crest will have little time to reflect on Friday’s results because the postseason opens Monday with a home game against South Haven (2-20). A win there would mean a semifinal showdown against No. 2 seed Norwich (18-4) with top-seeded Pleasanton (20-1) looming on the other side of the bracket.
