Ponies struggle in Burlington

BURLINGTON — Jenna Miller’s big 12-point and seven-rebound performance wasn’t enough to lift the eighth-grade Iola varsity to a victory on Tuesday night in Burlington.
The Bulldogs were able to limit the Ponies’ offense outside of Miller and Lauryn Holloway and they rolled to a 35-19 victory.
Holloway finished with seven points, four rebounds and three steals.
The rest of the Ponies were held scoreless.
Becca Sprague had an outstanding game on the boards with a team-high 10 rebounds, while Hannah Gardner had three steals.

EIGHTH-GRADE JV
The eighth-grade junior varsity was able to pick up a hard-fought 15-12 victory in Burlington on Tuesday.
The Ponies were out-scored 5-0 in the first quarter, but bounced back with nine points in the second quarter to take a 9-7 halftime lead and they piled on with a 4-0 third quarter margin, before hanging on in the fourth.
The Ponies had a balanced scoring effort with Andi Reynolds, Kelsie Finley and Sindney Shelby each scoring four points.
Audrey Coltrane added two points while Kailey Schinstock scored one.
Zareona Pulley and McKenna Orear were strong defensively with two steals each in the victory.

SEVENTH-GRADE VARSITY
The seventh-grade varsity team hung with Burlington through the first quarter when they trailed 4-2, but the second quarter spelled its doom in a 36-9 loss.
Iola was out-scored 20-6 in the second period and Burlington was able to open up a lead and continue to build upon it.
Reece Murry led Iola with four points on two-of-five shooting and 10 rebounds.
Josie Plumlee amd Chloe Sell each had two points while Ally Ellis rounded out the scoring with one point.

SEVENTH-GRADE JV
Iola’s seventh-grade junior varsity fought hard, but fell 14-8 against Burlington.
The Ponies were tied going into the fourth quarter at 8-8, but a 6-0 Burlington run in the final quarter ended Iola’s hopes.
Maci Miller led the Ponies with four points and Hannah Dorsey and Madison Adair each added two points.
Logan Ulrich and Braxton Curry each grabbed a team-high three rebounds.
