GIRARD — Iola Middle School’s track teams competed in the Girard Middle School Invitational Thursday.
In eighth-grade boys’ competition, Tyler Powelson set a new meet record in the 1600-meter run in 5 minutes, 18 seconds. The old record was 5:20 by Girard’s Strukel in 2005.
Also in the same division, Michael Wilson won the pole vault tying the meet mark of 8 feet, 6 inches.
In seventh-grade boys’ competition, Iola’s Trey Colborn won the shot put and discus with meet record throws of 36’6” and 100’71⁄4”, respectively. The old marks were 35 feet in the shot and 88’6” in the discus.
